Biography
Luna Sea, a prominent visual kei band of the '90s, emerged as a key player in the genre alongside X-Japan. The band's versatile approach to songwriting, rooted in '80s hard rock with a touch of prog, garnered a strong following and critical acclaim. Formed in 1989 as Lunacy, the band quickly gained momentum in the Tokyo music scene before catching the attention of X-Japan members and signing with Extasy Records. Luna Sea's subsequent success led to chart-topping albums and sold-out tours, but internal tensions eventually led to a hiatus in the late '90s.
Despite a brief disbandment announcement in 2000, Luna Sea regrouped in 2007 for a highly successful reunion show and officially reunited in 2010. The band continued to release new music, with their eighth album, "A Will," dropping in 2013. Celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2014, Luna Sea embarked on special shows and collaborations with notable artists. Recent albums like "Luv" and "Cross," produced by Steve Lillywhite, showcase the band's enduring legacy and willingness to evolve with new influences.
