Biography

Los Jaivas, a pioneering Chilean folk-rock band, emerged in the '60s and released their debut album "El Volantin" independently in 1971, followed by "Todos Juntos" in 1972. The band gained international recognition after leading the festival Los Caminos Que Se Abren in 1973, ultimately settling in Buenos Aires and then France, where they performed a historic concert at Paris' Olympia Theater in 1978. Their classic album "Las Alturas de Machu Pichu," inspired by Pablo Neruda's poems, was released in 1981, and they returned to Chile in 1983 for the Viña del Mar festival. Despite the tragic loss of percussionist Gabriel Parra in 1988, the band continued with Parra's daughter, Juanita Parra, taking over as the new drummer. In 2001, Sony Music released their album "Arrebol" following a compilation titled "Trilogia -- El Reencuentro," and the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with a major performance at Santiago's Estadio Nacional.
