Biography
In 1963, three 14-year-old students from the Don Orione Boarding School in Santiago, Chile, founded a band called The Douglas, consisting of Roberto Zúñiga, Luis Tamblay, and Juan Méndez. Over time, Mario Darigo and vocalist Julio "Dinamita" Espinoza joined the group. After finishing high school, Tamblay and Méndez decided to move to the USA and pursue further studies, respectively. Zúñiga then brought in Carlos Baeza, who recommended saxophonist Nicolás Parra and bassist Luis Muñoz, completing the lineup that recorded their first 45RPM record in 1967 as Los Galos, a simple name change without altering the band's essence.
In October 1970, they recorded "Como Deseo ser tu Amor," written by guitarist Carlos Baeza, which gained continental acclaim. Subsequent successful tours and albums led to internal conflicts, with Muñoz planning a solo career in January 1974 and demanding unreasonable terms to renew his contract, prompting his departure. Los Galos continued with their original four members, who have contributed significantly to their musical legacy up to the present day.
