Biography

Lola Beltrán was a renowned Mexican singer who achieved international acclaim for her expressive vocals in ranchera and mariachi music. Over the course of her four-decade career, she recorded more than 70 songs, including hits like "Huapango Torero," "La Cigarra," and "Paloma Negra," many of which earned gold record status. In 1982, she was honored with la Medella del Artistica del Extranjero for her contributions as Mexico's cultural ambassador. Beltrán's journey from a radio station secretary to a celebrated artist was propelled by the support of renowned singers Matilde Sanchez and Miguel Aceves Mejia, leading to her professional debut in 1954 and a successful recording contract with Peerless Records. In addition to her musical achievements, Beltrán also found success as a co-producer and actress in films, including the adaptation of the popular song "Cucurucucu Paloma" by Tomas Mendez. She marked her 40th anniversary in music with a concert at the Palacio del las Bellas Artes in 1994 before passing away two years later following a stroke.
