With a velvety alto voice likened to aged bourbon by The New York Times, Wright's music reflects the essence of American culture, offering a sense of familiarity and comfort to listeners. Raised in Georgia, where she served as a music director in her father's church, Wright gained national recognition at 22 through a standout performance in a Billie Holiday tribute concert.

Following her acclaimed debut album, Salt, released in 2003 under Verve Records, Wright continued to make waves in the music industry with subsequent albums under Universal Music Group and Concord. Notable releases include Freedom & Surrender (2016) and Grace (2017), with her most recent project, Holding Space, capturing a captivating live performance from Berlin in 2018 under her independent record label, Blues & Greens Records.
