Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, fronted by singer Lisa Velez and supported by instrumentalists Mike Hughes and Alex "Spanador" Mosely along with production team Full Force, achieved six crossover hits from the mid-'80s to early '90s. Their success began with the effervescent single "I Wonder if I Take You Home" in 1985, leading to platinum-selling albums and chart-topping singles like "Head to Toe" and "Lost in Emotion." After parting ways, Lisa Lisa pursued a solo career, releasing albums like LL 77 and Life 'n Love, showcasing her evolution as a vocalist and performer.

Lisa Lisa, born Lisa Velez, started her music career in church choir and eventually formed Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Mike Hughes and Alex Mosely under the mentorship of Full Force. Their blend of freestyle, dance-pop, and R&B produced hits like "All Cried Out" and "Let the Beat Hit 'Em." After the group disbanded, Lisa continued to release music independently, celebrating her Nuyorican roots with tracks like "No Lloraré Mas." Meanwhile, Hughes and Mosely regrouped with a new vocalist as CultJam, releasing the album CultJam Love in 2024.
