Biography
Hailing from Houston's vibrant underground rap scene, Lil' Flip gained rapid fame with his 2000 independent release, The Leprechaun, leading to a record deal with Universal Records. Known as the Freestyle King, his affiliation with DJ Screw's Screwed Up Click garnered respect across Texas and the South, culminating in the successful album Undaground Legend in 2002. Despite a brief period of obscurity, his 2004 double-disc U Gotta Feel Me reignited his national presence, sparking a rivalry with T.I. for the title of King of the South. After label troubles, his 2007 release I Need Mine marked a return to form, followed by collaborations and subsequent albums through his own imprint, Clover G's Records, culminating in 2015's El Jefe on SoSouth.
Lil' Flip's career has been marked by a mix of highs and lows, from his early breakthrough with The Leprechaun to the controversy surrounding his rivalry with T.I. and label struggles. Despite setbacks, he continued to release music independently, showcasing his versatility and resilience in the ever-evolving rap landscape. With a string of albums and collaborations, including the well-received El Jefe in 2015, Lil' Flip has proven himself as a mainstay in the Southern rap scene, blending his Freestyle King roots with a contemporary flair that keeps him relevant to this day.
