Biography

Level 42 began as a jazz-funk fusion band in the '80s, known for Mark King's distinctive bass style and Wally Badarou's synth work. They transitioned to sophisti-pop and dance-rock, achieving commercial success with hits like "Something About You" and "Lessons in Love." Despite lineup changes, the band released albums throughout the '90s and 2000s, culminating in their 2006 album Retroglide and a 30th-anniversary tour and box set in 2010.

Formed in 1979, Level 42's core lineup included Mark King, Phil Gould, Boon Gould, and Mike Lindup. Their early success in the U.K. charts led to international fame with hits like "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)" and "Lessons in Love." Following various lineup changes, the band continued to tour and release new material, including the EP Sirens in 2013.
