Leroy Hutson

Leroy Hutson, a versatile producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, emerged as a prominent figure in '70s soul music. Beginning his career in vocal groups in Newark, NJ, Hutson gained recognition for co-writing Donny Hathaway's hit song "The Ghetto" in 1970. He later joined the Impressions and embarked on a successful solo career, known for his smooth and imaginative productions that set a high standard within the industry. Despite not focusing on political themes like Curtis Mayfield, Hutson's love-inspired songs became classics of the era.

Throughout the mid- to late '70s, Hutson achieved commercial success with a series of albums while also collaborating with labelmates such as the Natural Four. Following the closure of Curtom Records in 1980, his career faded from the mainstream, although he released the notable album Paradise in 1982. Despite this decline, Hutson maintained a dedicated following among soul music enthusiasts, solidifying his legacy as an underrated soul producer of his time.
