Biography
Keni Burke, born in Chicago in 1953, began his musical career with the family group the Five Stairsteps, known for their hit song "O-o-h Child." After the group disbanded, he continued as a solo artist and became a sought-after session bass player, collaborating with a wide range of artists from Sly & the Family Stone to Diana Ross. Burke's self-titled debut solo album was released in 1977, followed by successful albums such as You're the Best in 1981 and Changes in 1982, which featured his biggest solo hit, "Risin' to the Top."
Throughout his career, Burke worked as a writer and producer with various artists, including the O'Jays and the Whispers. In 1998, he signed with Expansion Records and released his album Nothin' but Love, featuring the popular track "Indigenous Love." Burke's music has had a lasting impact, with his songs being sampled by hip-hop and urban artists, solidifying his influence in the music industry.
