Biography

Keith Green, a pioneering figure in CCM music, emerged as a successful singer/songwriter in the late '70s by blending a pop-oriented soft rock sound with overtly religious themes. Born in Brooklyn in 1953, Green's early musical talent led him to sign with Decca Records at just 11 years old. After marrying fellow musician Melody Steiner in 1973, the couple established Last Days Ministries, a non-profit organization that grew from their California home's outreach efforts. Green's Christian music career began in 1977 with the release of For Him Who Has Ears to Hear on Sparrow Records, showcasing his distinctive blend of soft rock akin to Elton John or Leo Sayer.

Despite his tragic death in a 1982 plane crash, Green's impact endures in the CCM world. His legacy lives on through posthumous albums like The Prodigal Son and Jesus Commands Us to Go!, as well as numerous compilations and tribute records. Melody Green carried on their ministry and penned a biography, No Compromise, in 1989, ensuring Keith Green's enduring influence on Christian music and his commitment to spreading faith through music remains celebrated decades later.
