Biography
Japanese composer, musician, and artist Keiichiro Shibuya is known for his diverse body of work spanning electronic music, piano solos, operas, film scores, and sound installations. In 2002, he founded the music label ATAK, focusing on both live performances and recorded music.
Shibuya gained international acclaim in 2012 with the vocaloid opera The End, featuring Hatsune Miku. Utilizing computer-generated audio and visuals, the opera premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and has since toured globally. He further pushed boundaries in 2017 by creating an android opera, collaborating with an AI-equipped humanoid robot to perform his original music. This culminated in the 2018 debut of Scary Beauty, where the android sang and conducted an orchestra. Continuing his innovative streak, Shibuya composed Super Angels in 2021, featuring the android alongside human opera singers, ballet dancers, and a full orchestra at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. In 2023, he presented the Android Opera MIRROR in Paris, collaborating with Buddhist monks and an orchestra.
