Biography
Hailing from Berlin, French musician David Letellier, known as Kangding Ray, creates meticulously crafted electronic music that combines avant-garde sound design with visceral impact. Starting with experimental albums like 2006's Stabil, he later ventured into more club-oriented releases such as 2010's Pruitt Igoe and conceptual works like 2015's Cory Arcane.
Letellier, who previously played guitar and drums in bands, transitioned to electronic music production. His early albums under the Raster-Noton label, like Stabil (2006) and Automne Fold (2008), showcased a blend of glitchy textures and acoustic elements. Throughout his career, he evolved towards more danceable rhythms, as seen in releases like the 2011 album OR and the 2017 dystopian techno album Hyper Opal Mantis. In 2019, Kangding Ray launched his own label, ara, with the Predawn Qualia EP.
