Justo Betancourt

Born on December 6, 1940 in La Marina, Matanzas, Cuba, Inspiraciones singer Adalberto Betancourt is known for his lyrical spontaneity and versatile vocal styles, ranging from boleros to up-tempo hits. After starting his career with various groups in Cuba, Betancourt moved to New York in 1964 where he collaborated with renowned musicians such as Orlando Marín and Johnny Pacheco. Signing with Fania Records in 1968, Betancourt gained popularity with albums like Los Dinamicos (1971) and Pa Bravo Yo (1972), showcasing his hit title track.

In the early 1970s, Betancourt relocated to Puerto Rico and formed the successful band Borincuba, releasing albums like Distinto Y Diferente (1977) and Presencia! (1978). However, issues arose due to Betancourt's difficult personality, leading to Tito Rojas taking over as lead vocalist. Rojas later found success with his own band Puerto Rican Power, while Betancourt made a comeback in 1990 with the album Regresar on his RMQ label. Throughout his career, Betancourt has collaborated with notable acts like Fania All Stars, showcasing his enduring influence in the salsa music scene.
