Justin Hurwitz

Composer Justin Hurwitz gained recognition for his jazz-infused collaborations with director Damien Chazelle, notably on the films Whiplash (2014) and La La Land (2016), for which he won Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. Raised in a creative household in California, Hurwitz started composing music at a young age and later studied at Harvard University, where he met Chazelle and began their fruitful partnership. Their latest project together, the Hollywood epic Babylon, was released in 2022.

Hurwitz's career expanded beyond film composing, as he also dabbled in scriptwriting for television shows like The Simpsons and Curb Your Enthusiasm. His diverse musical background, which included early exposure to jazz, laid the foundation for his successful collaboration with Chazelle.
