José Alfredo Jiménez

José Alfredo Jiménez, a prominent figure in the ranchera genre, began his musical career at a young age following the passing of his parents. In the late 1940s, he formed the trio Los Rebeldes, gaining popularity through radio performances and collaborations with notable artists. Known for his compositions such as "Ella" and "Cuatro Caminos," Jiménez's career was marked by songs reflecting themes of love and hardship. Diagnosed with cirrhosis in 1968, he passed away in 1973, leaving a lasting impact on Mexican music. Vicente Fernandez later paid tribute to Jiménez by recording several albums of his songs.

In 2018, a commemorative compilation titled Un Mundo Raro: Las Canciones de José Alfredo Jiménez was produced by Camilo Lara of Mexican Institute of Sound, featuring modern interpretations of Jiménez's works by various artists including Enrique Bunbury and Carla Morrison. The project aimed to honor Jiménez's legacy on the 45th anniversary of his death, showcasing his enduring influence on contemporary musicians.
