Jonny Lang, hailing from Fargo, North Dakota, epitomized this phenomenon, releasing his solo debut album, Lie to Me, at just 15 years old. Lang's musical journey began at age 12 when he joined the Bad Medicine Blues Band, eventually becoming their leader and relocating to Minneapolis as Kid Jonny Lang & the Big Bang. His major-label debut with A&M Records in 1996 led to a successful career, including albums like Wander This World, Long Time Coming, and Turn Around. Lang's sixth studio album, Fight for My Soul, topped Billboard's Blues Albums chart in 2013, followed by the politically charged Signs in 2017.
