Formed in 2016 by Jellyfish Entertainment, Gugudan is a Korean girl group influenced by classic K-pop sounds. Comprised of Hana, Mimi, Haebin, Nayoung, Sejeong, Sally, Soyee, and Mina, the group initially included Hyeyeon, who later left in 2018. Gugudan debuted with Act.1: The Little Mermaid, reaching number two on Korean charts. They continued their success with subsequent EP releases and sub-unit projects, including Gugudan5959 and Gugudan SeMiNa, as well as making strides in the Japanese market.

Throughout the late 2010s, Gugudan maintained a Top 10 chart presence with releases like Act 2: Narcissus and Act.3: Chococo Factory. Despite member changes and the departure of Hyeyeon, the group's electro-dance evolution remained strong with Act. 4: Cait Sith and Act. 5: New Action. Gugudan's blend of dance anthems, vocal harmonies, and occasional rapping solidified their place in the K-pop scene.
