Biography

Gotye, born Wouter De Backer on May 21, 1980, is a Belgian-Australian songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. De Backer gained global recognition in 2011 with his single "Someone I Used to Know." He formed his first band, Downstares, during his teenage years and later released music under the pseudonym Gotye, with his debut EP, "Out Here in the Cold," in 2001.

In addition to his solo work, De Backer co-founded the band the Basics with Kris Schroeder, releasing their first album in 2003. Gotye's second album, "Like Drawing Blood," achieved critical and commercial success in Australia in 2006. His third album, "Making Mirrors," released in 2011, featured the hit single "Someone That I Used to Know" with Kimbra, which won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. De Backer also founded the Ondioline Orchestra and established the record label Forgotten Futures in 2017.
