Decrepit Birth

Decrepit Birth, a technical death metal band hailing from Santa Cruz, California, combines brutal physical power with an unerringly precise attack. Formed in the mid-'90s by vocalist Bill Robinson and guitarist Matt Sotelo, the band solidified its lineup in 2001 with bassist Derek Boyer. Known for their striking live performances, Decrepit Birth released their debut album, ...And Time Begins, in 2003 featuring drummer Tim Yeung. With a more melodic sound but retaining their ferocity, their second full-length album, Diminishing Between Worlds, followed in 2008. Despite lineup changes, the band continued to evolve, releasing Polarity in 2010 through Nuclear Blast before returning with Axis Mundi in 2017.

After a period of extensive touring, Decrepit Birth's sound expanded under Sotelo's songwriting, incorporating melodic elements while maintaining their aggressive edge. The band's lineup saw shifts over the years, with various members contributing to their albums and live performances. Despite taking a break following the release of Polarity, Decrepit Birth demonstrated resilience and creativity with the 2017 album Axis Mundi, recorded across home studios and a Canadian studio. The band's dedication to their craft and willingness to adapt have cemented their status in the technical death metal scene.
