Dead Moon

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Dead Moon was a renowned three-piece band known for their authentic and energetic rootsy garage punk sound. Led by husband-and-wife duo Fred and Toody Cole, the band formed in 1987 and gained a devoted following in Europe while struggling to achieve mainstream success in the U.S. Dead Moon independently released vinyl-only albums on their Tombstone label and later re-released them on CD through European and American labels, continuing into the 2000s. After the band's dissolution in 2006, Fred and Toody formed Pierced Arrows, with Dead Moon's extensive catalog receiving various re-releases over the years, including archival live recordings.

In 2006, Sub Pop released the retrospective Echoes of the Past, a collection of Dead Moon tracks selected by Fred Cole. Following the band's breakup, Fred and Toody Cole formed Pierced Arrows, while Dead Moon's legacy lived on through re-releases and archival live recordings. Drummer Andrew Loomis passed away in 2016, with Fred Cole following in 2017. The band's impact and raw energy were captured in posthumous releases such as Tales from the Grease Trap, Vol. 1, and What a Way to See the Old Girl Go, showcasing their memorable live performances from the '90s.
