Biography

Emerging from São Paulo's underground rock scene in the mid-'90s, CPM 22 quickly rose to fame as one of Brazil's leading punk-pop bands. The quintet, consisting of Badauí, Luciano, Wally, Fernandinho, and Japinha, drew inspiration from punk icons like the Ramones and blended it with the influences of Green Day and Weezer. Their early albums, including their independent debut A Alguns Quilômetros de Lugar Nenhum and subsequent releases under Abril Music, spawned several chart-topping hits and sold hundreds of thousands of copies, propelling them to mainstream success. Despite criticism for their commercial appeal, CPM 22 responded with a rawer punk sound in "Inevitável" and cemented their status with the live album MTV ao Vivo in 2006.

Throughout their career, CPM 22 navigated the delicate balance between underground roots and mainstream success, showcasing their versatility and resilience in the face of industry pressures. With a sound that evolved from punk-pop anthems to more stripped-down punk rock, the band continued to captivate audiences and maintain their relevance in the Brazilian music scene.
