Biography
Reggae singer Cornel Campbell, born in Jamaica in 1945, gained fame for his "Gorgon rock" records with producer Bunny Lee. Campbell began his music career as a pre-teen recording ska music for Studio One and later found success with rocksteady harmony trio the Uniques. His collaboration with Lee in the early 1970s highlighted Campbell's distinctive falsetto, leading to hits like "Queen of the Minstrels" and "Stars." Despite a shift to a more Rastafarian style in the mid-1970s, Campbell's commercial success declined in the 1980s. However, he experienced a career resurgence in 2005 with the techno-dub group Rhythm & Sound and later collaborated with the London-based dub band Soothsayers in 2013 for the album Nothing Can Stop Us under the Strut label's Inspiration Information series.
