Biography

Cher, born Cherilyn Sarkisian in California in 1946, rose to fame in the 1960s with her then-husband Sonny Bono as the duo Sonny & Cher. Their hits included "I Got You Babe" and "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)." Cher's solo career also saw success with songs like "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and "Half-Breed." Transitioning to acting in the 1980s, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Moonstruck.

In recent years, Cher has focused more on acting than music, but she continues to record and perform. Notable achievements include the chart-topping single "Believe" in 1998 and the Golden Globe-winning song "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" from the movie Burlesque in 2010.
