Emerging from Detroit in the early '70s, the Chairmen of the Board, fronted by General Norman Johnson, achieved brief but notable success with hits like "Give Me Just a Little More Time." Johnson's journey from Norfolk, VA, through various musical groups culminated in the formation of the Chairmen, known for their smooth soul sound and Johnson's distinct vocals.

Despite a short time in the spotlight, the Chairmen of the Board left a lasting impact on the R&B scene with hits like "(You've Got Me) Dangling on a String" and "Everything's Tuesday." Though the group disbanded in 1976, General Norman Johnson's songwriting continued to influence the music industry, with his compositions becoming hits for artists like Clarence Carter and Honey Cone. Johnson and bandmate Danny Woods briefly revived the Chairmen in the '80s, enjoying continued success in the Southeast music circuit.
