Born Caroline Catharina M├╝ller in the Netherlands, she transitioned to Germany in the late '70s and joined girl quartet Optimal before catching the attention of songwriter/producer Dieter Bohlen in 1980. Under Bohlen's guidance, she adopted the stage name C.C. Catch and saw success with singles like "I Can Lose My Heart Tonight" in 1985.
Despite her fruitful collaboration with Bohlen leading to four albums and 12 singles, C.C. Catch desired to break away from being perceived as a female version of Modern Talking, Bohlen's duo. After being denied creative input, she chose not to renew her contract with producer Bohlen and Hansa Records. Releasing her first independent album "Hear What I Say" in 1989, produced in London, C.C. Catch showcased a new musical direction with songs she co-wrote. Though met with moderate success due to public reception challenges, she later took a break from music to explore meditation and married in London, eventually returning to music for a greatest hits collection in 1998 and possible new album endeavors.
