Biography

Brand Nubian, formed in 1989 in New Rochelle, stood out in the early '90s rap scene for their militant stance influenced by the Five Percent Nation of Islam. Despite controversy surrounding their political and religious views, their musicality and skilled MC Grand Puba on their debut album One for All garnered critical acclaim. However, tensions within the group led to Grand Puba's departure in 1991, impacting their subsequent releases.

After Grand Puba's solo debut in 1992, the remaining members of Brand Nubian regrouped for In God We Trust in 1993, which achieved moderate success. By 1994's Everything Is Everything, their pro-Islam rhetoric became more pronounced, leading to a decline in critical reception. The group eventually disbanded, with members pursuing solo endeavors before reuniting for the well-received Arista album Foundation in 1998 and later for Fire in the Hole in 2004.
