Biography

The Blue Scholars, alongside fellow Seattle rap groups Common Market and Boom Bap Project, championed the Pacific Northwest as a hub for "true school" hip-hop. Comprised of DJ/producer Sabzi and MC Geologic, the duo emerged from the University of Washington campus in 2002, opting for a DIY approach by self-releasing their debut album in 2004. Drawing on diverse influences, including Sabzi's Persian heritage and Geologic's socially conscious lyrics, their music gained widespread acclaim, leading to national and international distribution by 2005. Embracing their local success, the Blue Scholars fostered a movement by founding the independent label Mass Line Media in 2006, alongside collaborators like RA Scion and Gabriel Teodros.
