Biography
Blue Cheer, often dubbed as "louder than god," were pioneers of heavy metal with their raw, blues-based rock and monolithic guitar sound on albums like Vincebus Eruptum and Outsideinside in 1968. The band's high-impact approach inspired many to turn up the volume, and they continued to explore proto-metal hard rock throughout their career, peaking with 2007's What Doesn't Kill You. Founded in 1966 by bassist Dickie Peterson, Blue Cheer underwent several lineup changes but maintained their reputation for overpowering stage presence and innovative sound.
Blue Cheer's debut single, a hard rock version of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," became a surprise hit in 1967, setting the stage for their influential career. With a tumultuous journey through various band members and musical styles, Blue Cheer's legacy was marked by their unapologetically loud performances and groundbreaking albums. Despite setbacks and changes, their impact on the rock scene remained undeniable, leading to a resurgence of interest in their music even after the passing of founding member Dickie Peterson in 2009.
