Biography

Blu Cantrell, raised in Providence, R.I., discovered her passion for music at a young age while watching her mother perform jazz. Her career took off in 2000 when she impressed A&R executive Tab and producer C. Stewart with her demo tape in Atlanta, leading to studio work and background vocals for various artists. Cantrell's debut album, So Blu (2001), reached the Top Ten on the charts, with the hit single "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" garnering national attention. Despite her second album, Bittersweet (2003), not achieving the same level of commercial success, it earned her a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.
