Blood Ceremony

Blood Ceremony, a Toronto-based band named after a 1972 Spanish horror film, specializes in '70s-style doom and heavy prog rock infused with occult themes. Led by singer/flutist/organist Alia O'Brien, the group gained recognition with albums like The Eldritch Dark (2013) and Lord of Misrule (2016), drawing inspiration from classic bands such as Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull. Embracing vintage analog technology, the band's lineup evolved over the years, culminating in the release of their fifth album, The Old Ways Remain, in 2023, a mystical blend of heavy rock and pagan folk created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Blood Ceremony's journey began in 2006 with a lineup including Alia O'Brien, Sean Kennedy, Chris Landon, and Jeremy Finkelstein, who embraced retro equipment and live performances to refine their unique sound. After signing with Rise Above Records, the band released their debut album in 2008, followed by subsequent records featuring a mix of heavy riffs and folk influences. Despite lineup changes, Blood Ceremony continued to evolve their signature style, captivating audiences with their dark, atmospheric music and enigmatic live shows alongside bands like Ghost and Witchcraft, solidifying their status as torchbearers of vintage-inspired rock.
