"The Purple Smurfs" is the debut album of the original French-language Smurfs comic series created by Belgian artist Peyo in 1963. The main story, "Les Schtroumpfs noirs," first appeared in Spirou magazine in 1959 as a "mini-récit" that readers could cut out and fold into a small booklet. Along with the titular story, the album also includes two other tales: "The Flying Smurf" and "The Smurfnapper."
