Beats International

Following the breakup of the Housemartins in 1988, bassist Norman Cook transitioned back to DJing and found success as a prominent remixer in the English music scene. Cook's solo career began in 1989 with the hit single "Won't Talk About It," featuring Billy Bragg. He later formed Beats International, achieving chart-topping success with their debut single "Dub Be Good to Me" in 1990, which incorporated elements from the SOS Band and the Clash. Despite subsequent releases like "Burundi Blues," the group's momentum waned, leading Cook to disband Beats International in 1991 to focus on his new project, Freak Power.

Throughout his career, Cook remained in demand as a remixer for various artists, from Aztec Camera to the Jungle Brothers. Despite Beats International's decline, their impact on the dance music scene was notable, particularly with their sample-heavy debut album Let Them Eat Bingo. Cook's musical journey continued with the formation of Freak Power, marking a new chapter in his evolving sound and creativity.
