Biography

Azymuth, the influential Brazilian jazz-funk trio formed in the early 1970s, has left a lasting impact on generations of musicians and producers with their unique blend of electric jazz, pop, samba, and electronic music. The original trio of José Roberto Bertrami, Alex Malheiros, and Ivan Conti, known for their "samba doido" style, gained popularity in the '80s with their fusion of Brazilian rhythms, jazz, and funk. Their extensive discography includes acclaimed albums like Light as a Feather and collaborations with renowned DJs and producers.

Prior to forming Azymuth, the trio's members had established individual careers in Rio's bossa nova and jazz scenes during the '60s. After coming together in the early '70s, they quickly found success with hits like "Linha de Horizonte" and "Manha," solidifying their trademark sound. Over the years, Azymuth continued to evolve and experiment, releasing successful albums like Outubro and Butterfly. Following the passing of co-founder José Roberto Bertrami, the trio recruited Kiko Continentino and continued to captivate audiences with their innovative music. Ivan Conti's death in 2023 marked the end of an era for the legendary group.
