Biography

AWAKEN I AM faced tragedy with the sudden loss of guitarist Connor Verner-Oakley in a fatal accident upon returning to Brisbane, Australia from their first US tour in March 2018. Despite the devastating loss, the band managed to release their final recording with Oakley, "Dissolution," on April 30, 2018, as a tribute to their fallen brother. Following his passing, the remaining members worked with producer Taylor Larson to create an EP titled "The Beauty In Tragedy," dedicated to Oakley and the journey of coping with grief through music.

The EP serves as a cathartic and inspiring homage to Oakley, with songs written as a tribute to him and reflections on the tragic event. Drummer Luke McKenzie shares that the band's goal was to find beauty in the midst of tragedy, using music as a means to express their emotions and honor Oakley's memory. Through this process, AWAKEN I AM aimed to keep their shared dream alive and pay tribute to their lost bandmate.
