Biography

Formed in 1987 in Overijssel, Dutch extreme metal band Asphyx quickly established themselves as a force in the death and doom metal scene. Despite numerous lineup changes, they found stability with the release of 2009's Death...The Brutal Way. The band continued to evolve their uncompromising sound with subsequent albums like Incoming Death (2016) and Necroceros (2021), showcasing their command of death-doom metal even without any original members.

Asphyx's journey has been marked by perseverance and reinvention. After a series of lineup shifts and label challenges, the band, now fronted by ex-Pestilence vocalist Martin van Drunen, signed with Century Media Records in 1990. Despite disbanding and reuniting multiple times, Asphyx's legacy endures, as seen in their latest releases under the leadership of new drummer Stefan Hüskens. With a relentless dedication to their sound, Asphyx continues to push the boundaries of extreme metal.
