Asobi Seksu is a New York-based band with a hyper-stylized graphic design aesthetic and a mix of Japanese and English vocals. Drawing inspiration from Japanese pop and British shoegaze bands, they gained attention with their self-titled debut album in 2002, eventually releasing albums like "Citrus" and "Hush" that showcased a shift towards a more atmospheric sound. The band, led by singer Yuki Chikudate and guitarist James Hanna, continued to evolve their music with cleaner tones on subsequent releases like "Fluorescence."

Formed in 2001, Asobi Seksu garnered local buzz in New York's vibrant music scene and caught the attention of Friendly Fire Records, leading to the reissue of their debut album in 2004. Through personnel changes and collaborations with producer Chris Zane, the band refined their sound, moving away from heavy guitar noise towards a more polished and layered approach.
