Biography

Hailing from the vibrant Glasgow music scene alongside Belle & Sebastian and Mogwai, Arab Strap gained renown in the 1990s and 2000s for their raw, Scottish-accented storytelling on themes of sex and drugs, set to a backdrop of drum machines, electronic loops, and sparse guitar melodies. Led by the duo of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, the band's sound evolved from somber beginnings on early albums like Philophobia to more polished and slightly optimistic tones on subsequent releases like The Red Thread and The Last Romance, the latter initially declared as their final album. Following successful solo careers, Moffat and Middleton reunited in the 2010s for live shows and eventually released their seventh studio album, As Days Get Dark, in 2021.
