Biography

Angel Canales, a pioneering figure in Latin music, has been pushing boundaries for over 30 years. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he brought a unique intensity to his music, backed by top Latin musicians. Canales and his band, Sabor con Angel Canales, were known for delivering hard-hitting Latin jazz in New York during the 1970s and '80s, earning them the label of "heavy metal Latin Bronx style." Despite setbacks in the music industry, including disbanding his group in 1990, Canales couldn't resist the call of music and returned to touring in the mid-'90s.

Canales' passion for music was ignited at a young age, inspired by artists like Ismael Rivera. Starting as a timbale player, he transitioned to singing and made his recording debut in 1971 with the group Sabor. Taking over leadership after Mark "Markolino" Dimond's departure, Canales continued to make his mark on the Latin music scene, blending traditional elements with his own innovative style.
