Apostle James

Apostle James, also known as James the Greater, was one of the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus. He was the brother of John the Apostle and was a fisherman before he was called to follow Jesus. James was present at key moments in Jesus' ministry, such as the Transfiguration and the Garden of Gethsemane. He was also one of the first martyrs among the apostles, being executed by King Herod Agrippa I in Jerusalem.

James is often portrayed holding a pilgrim's staff and a shell, symbols of his role as the patron saint of pilgrims and Spain. He is revered in the Catholic Church, and his feast day is celebrated on July 25th. James' legacy lives on in the numerous churches and pilgrimage sites dedicated to him, including the famous Camino de Santiago in Spain, where his relics are said to be enshrined.
