Andrew Charles Levine

Andrew Levine, a versatile musician born in NYC in 1968, began his musical journey on the violin at the age of six and later pursued studies in voice, earning an M.A. at the University of Trier. With a background in video production since 1998, he has increasingly focused on live concert recordings since 2003. Levine is an active member of the VDT and received the Goldener Bobby award in 2014, currently serving as the chair of the Music and Word Production department within the organization.

Starting in 2010, Levine has been exploring free improvisation with the Moog Theremin and has expanded his sonic toolkit over the years, incorporating instruments such as the 0-Coast synth, STEIM Cracklebox, and polyphonic Haken Continuum. Notable highlights include a US tour and a Theremin festival in 2020, with grants from 2021 to 2023 enabling him to further experiment with sound manipulation and electronic exploration. Collaborative projects with Quatuor BRAC and Katrin Bethge, as well as sessions in Weimar and a residency in Paris, showcase his innovative approach to blending electronics and organ in his music.
