Zola Blood, known for their 2022 release "Black Blossom," have returned with a new single titled "Together" ahead of an upcoming EP set to be released this summer. The track explores themes of partnership and dependency through a blend of electronica elements, featuring a looped wind chime and a syncopated bassline that builds into a crescendo of detuned arpeggios and pitch bent synths. Singer Matt West described the song as a departure from their previous work, drawing inspiration from artists like Nicola Cruz and slow techno, with lyrics reflecting on the complexities of relationships within the band.
The band aimed to create a unique sound with "Together," centering around a sludgy bassline crafted by Ed. The track serves as a meditation on the duality of pleasure and pain that comes with collaboration, emphasizing the idea that despite challenges, being part of something is ultimately more rewarding than being on the outside.
