Florida-based rapper YNW Melly gained recognition for his emotionally charged rap tracks inspired by his tumultuous life. Born Jamell Demons in 1999, he started uploading original music to SoundCloud at the age of 15, blending melodic singing with gritty lyrics reflecting his experiences with violence, crime, and adversity in Gifford, Florida. Following legal troubles in 2017, he intensified his music output, releasing singles like "Murder on My Mind" and collaborating with artists such as Lil B and John Wicks on the Collect Call EP in 2017.
In 2018, Melly continued to build his discography with singles like "Melly the Menace" and "Virtual," leading up to his debut mixtape, I Am You.
