Biography
Wolfsheim was a German synthpop duo hailing from Hamburg, formed in 1987 and disbanded in 2005. The group comprised Markus Reinhardt handling music production and Peter Heppner providing vocals and lyrics. Their music style combined New Wave, synthpop, and darkwave elements, featuring melancholic and modernist themes inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald's character Meyer Wolfsheim from The Great Gatsby.
The duo achieved breakthrough success in 1991 with their single "The Sparrows and the Nightingales" and their debut album No Happy View in 1992. Wolfsheim further solidified their presence in the music scene with albums like Spectators (1999), reaching number two on the German charts, and Casting Shadows (2003), debuting at number one. Hits such as "Once in a Lifetime" and "Kein Zurück" marked their commercial success. Despite their acclaim, internal conflicts led to the duo's disbandment in 2005, attributed to disagreements between Reinhardt and Heppner on the band's future direction. Wolfsheim's legacy endures in the synthpop and darkwave genres, celebrated for their emotive music and unique artistic approach.
