Biography

Taking their name from a local slang expression, Voz Veis was a Latin pop band formed in Maracaibo, Venezuela, in 1994. Born as an a cappella group that performed at parties and events, it consisted of singers Luis Leal, Gustavo González, Santiago and Luis Fernando "Luigi" Castillo, and Roberto Ignacio and Carlos Labrador. In 1997, they signed with the indie label Airó Music and made their official debut later that year with the album Lo Mejor Aún Está Por Venir. This was followed by a move to Sonográfica and a second studio album titled Virao, the last to feature the band's trademark a cappella stylings. A new edition of the LP was released in 2003 after the group was signed to Latin World. Voz Veis would release one more album for Latin World, 2004's Vas, before returning to Sonográfica with the Christmas album ¿Cómo se Llega a Belén? and the compilation Éxitos, both released in 2006. "Ven a Mi Casa Esta Navidad," one of the songs from ¿Cómo se Llega a Belén?, won Best Short Form Music Video at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2007. Their third full-length album, ¿Qué Me Has Hecho Tú?, came out later that year. In 2008, Voz Veis released what was arguably the most important album of their career, Todos a Belén, a holiday LP featuring cameos by Latin pop heavyweights such as Sin Bandera's Noel Schajris, Franco De Vita, Andrés Cepeda, and Ricardo Montaner. Despite its growing popularity in Venezuela, the sextet officially announced its dissolution in 2010. All six members reconvened in 2021 for a one-off performance in Miami for charity purposes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
