Biography
Minchin is best known for his live shows, performing extensively around the world and releasing 3 live albums & 5 live DVDs. He has sold out many of the world’s most prestigious venues: the Royal Albert Hall, London’s O2 Arena, & the Sydney Opera House.
Tim composed the music & lyrics for a stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book "Matilda". Matilda the Musical has become one of the most critically acclaimed & popular musicals of all time, winning more than 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, 5 Tony Awards & a record 7 Olivier Awards.
Minchin also composed the music & lyrics to the musical "Groundhog Day" based on the 1993 film starring Bill Murray. This won Minchin his second Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
In 2019 Tim developed, wrote, composed, directed & starred in the TV drama series "Upright". A second TV series is in the works.
In 2013 the University of Western Australia awarded Minchin an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters, recognizing his achievements, worldwide acclaim, & contribution to the arts. Tim delivered an iconic & widely circulated address when receiving the award.
In 2020 Tim released his first album of pop music: "Apart Together".
