Shin Dong-gab, known by his stage name The Quiett, is a South Korean rapper, composer, and record producer. He was born on January 29, 1985, in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province. The Quiett began his career in 2003 and co-founded the indie Korean hip-hop label Soul Company in 2004, alongside several artists including Kebee and Jerry.K. His studio debut, Music, was released in 2005, followed by Q Train in 2006 as well as Supremacy, a collaboration with Paloalto. His 2010 album, The Real Me, went gold, selling 7,000 copies and cementing his reputation in the indie scene. In 2011, The Quiett and rapper Dok2 founded Illionaire Records, significantly impacting Korean hip-hop. That year, Beenzino joined the label, which became influential in the genre's rise. The Quiett released a series of successful and acclaimed albums under Illionaire, including 1 Life 2 Live (2015), Q Train 2 (2016), Millionaire Poetry (2017), and Glow Forever (2018). He won the New Star of the Year at the MBC Entertainment Awards in 2014 and the Rookie Award, Male at the SBS Entertainment Awards in 2016. The Quiett gained further recognition through television, appearing as a judge on Show Me the Money seasons 3, 5, and 7, and High School Rapper seasons 3 and 4. He played a key role in mentoring and judging aspiring rappers, contributing to the show's success. After Illionaire Records closed in 2020, The Quiett established Daytona Entertainment with rapper Yumdda. Over the following years, he continued to influence the hip-hop scene as CEO of Ambition Musik, a former sub-label under Illionaire, before dropping his ninth full-length album Luxury Flow (2024), which peaked at number 67 in South Korea.
