Biography

Formed in 1999 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the National consists of lead vocalist Matt Berninger, guitarist/bassist Aaron Dessner, and brothers Scott Devendorf (bass/guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Originally part of the garage punk band Nancy, the group transitioned to Brooklyn, New York, where they released their debut album on Brassland Records in 2001. Their sound evolved over the years, incorporating elements of alternative country-rock, Americana, and post-punk, leading to critical acclaim and commercial success with albums like Boxer (2007) and High Violet (2010).

The band's seventh studio album, Sleep Well Beast (2017), earned them a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
