Biography

Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, The Bangles, originally known as The Bangs, were a female band comprising Vicki Peterson, Debbi Peterson, and Susanna Hoffs. After releasing their debut EP and album, the group signed with CBS Records in 1983, with Michael Steele replacing Annette Zilinskas on bass. Their second album, "Different Light," featuring hits like "Manic Monday" and "Walk Like an Egyptian," propelled them to mainstream success. Following the release of their third album, "Everything," and disbandment in 1989, Hoffs pursued a solo career.

In 1998, The Bangles reunited for a song on the Austin Powers film soundtrack, leading to a tour in 2000. The band released "Doll Revolution" in 2003, with Steele departing shortly after. The group continued performing with Abby Travis on bass. Hoffs collaborated with Matthew Sweet on cover albums and produced The Bangles' fifth record, "Sweetheart of the Sun," in 2011. The band continued touring and participating in various events, including the Paisley Underground compilation in 2019, showcasing their enduring presence in the music scene.
