Driven by Victoria Bergsman's musical evolution and distinctive vocals, Taken by Trees diverged from the indie pop sound of her previous band, the Concretes. Bergsman explored diverse influences, from Middle Eastern sounds on East of Eden to tropical vibes on Other Worlds and mainstream pop on Yellow to Blue. Despite the varied styles, Taken by Trees' Another Year EP in 2022 showcased Bergsman's unwavering commitment to her core musical strengths.

After departing from the Concretes in 2006, Bergsman swiftly embarked on her new project, Taken by Trees, showcasing a more somber sound akin to Camera Obscura and El Perro del Mar. Her musical journey led her to experiment with Pakistani and Hawaiian influences on subsequent albums, culminating in the release of the indie pop-oriented Another Year EP in 2022.
